Roman Travertine stones are extracted from the Poggi Quarries following a step-by-step process to guarantee the high quality of the manufactured and processed material. From the extraction of blocks in our quarries, to the squaring and selection of the raw material. The cutting of the chosen materials with gang-saws. Slabs are produced and processed using high-tech polishing machines. Finished products are produced and exported globally.
The primary extraction phase of Roman Travertine is the "bench" - this consists in drilling a deep hole in the rock wall, which is used to insert a diamond wire that will cut the stone wall with varying thicknesses and heights depending on the shape and the geometry of the travertine basin.
Cleaning the blocks, a task that at first glance seems simple and is necessary to free the travertine from dust and soil. The finest materials are carefully selected, based primarily on color, structure and dimension. Blocks are squared to remove defects and to allow a selection based on the subsequential processing phases.
Blocks are cut in various thicknesses. Our gangsaw blades are set to serve different thicknesses (1cm, 1.3cm, 1.5cm, 2cm, 3cm, 4cm, 5cm and more). Roman Travertine slabs can be processed in vein cut or cross cut.
Slabs can be processed according to different finishes, by transforming their surface and giving it different look: to add an elegant touch or to give them a better resistance, or to comply to their final destination use.
The final phase of stone processing is done in our laboratories where, through the dexterity of skilled stonemasons, we cut slabs to offer finished products: pavers and tiles, real works of art such as inlays and absolutely exclusive handcrafted mosaics. With sophisticated equipment and high engineering and technology we create stone works for classic and modern architecture and engineering.
